Initially Marlon was an aspiring NFL football player like many children growing up in his area. The confident, speedy tailback from Norfolk, Virginia made a name for himself in the state but it was not until he quit basketball to join his high school track and field team where he received national recognition. After a semi season his junior year, the Virginia Pilot introduced Marlon as “One of the nation’s best all-around jumpers”. Marlon lived up to the quote. In a matter of months, Marlon increased his long jump distance by two feet (22’1” to 24’0”), high jump best by a foot (6’1” to 7’0”) and triple jump distance by three feet (45’5” to 48’0”).
Due to sensitive reasons, Marlon graduated from Booker T. Washington HS to enroll in its neighboring college, Norfolk State University. After remaining undefeated in the High Jump for six MEAC championships, winning multiple MEAC Most Outstanding Performance awards, being named USTFCCCA Southeast Field Athlete of the Year and breaking school and conference records he decided to transfer to Florida State University. There Marlon exceeded pass his personal best in the long jump and more importantly graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology.
Now Marlon uses his free time away from training to become a professional athlete to volunteer at local schools offering training advice, nutrition information and workouts to help develop student athletes. Marlon also conducts boot camp style workouts at local homeless and domestic violence shelters.
